edhochuli are a Pittsburgh ‘comma’ rock band. I am honored to have them help me celebrate ten years of HughShows today and want to thank David Rath (Guitar) for taking the time to participate in this edition of First/Last.

The first album you ever bought?

I bought Boyz II Men, “Cooleyhighharmony” on cassette tape from Music N More in Grove City PA, if I had to guess, probably the summer of 1991. Birthday money, I think. Definitely didn’t have a job.

Your last album bought?

Tried to buy the new Secret Tombs tape at a show they played recently. They didn’t have them. I think Ben told me I have to complete some sort of quest to get attuned and then meet in a certain place at a certain time. Sounds cool, I’m game.

Favorite album of all time?

There are a lot of times and as many favorite albums. Probably the most frequent one has been “TNT” by Tortoise.

Least favorite/most disappointing album?

Zwan was hella disappointing.

First concert attended?

I went with my sister and her HS boyfriend to see the Eagles ‘Hell Freezes Over’ tour. Spent forty-five of some of the first dollars I ever earned “having a job”. I was and am still mostly indifferent to the Eagles/immune to the distaste shared by many (including current bandmates).

Last concert?

Recently saw Ultrasphinx at the Rock Room. They were ridiculously good.

Favorite concert ever?

Too many good ones to count. Can’t pick a favorite.

Least favorite concert?

I was at Lollapalooza when Hole and Sonic Youth were headliners. I had previously heard enough Hole to know that I disliked them, but had only heard a little Sonic Youth and mostly buzz, but I was excited to see them. Hole left the stage after someone threw a spent shotgun shell with “Kurt” written on it in lipstick, and then Sonic Youth was underwhelming/not good in my opinion. Although, after looking at it from the perspective of someone who has since played a number of shows, I can’t imagine being stoked to play after a transpiration of that sort.

Favorite thoughts, experiences about Pittsburgh?

I’ve been enjoying a lot of the shows at Gooski’s in recent past.
