First/Last-Sean Thomas Gerard

Posted on August 31, 2015

“When performing solo, Sean’s songs are stripped bare, exposing his keen sense of melody and songwriting craftsmanship. He delivers his songs with great intensity and undeniable sincerity. His catchy, yet haunting tunes, chocked full of dreamy
lyrics and clever observations, will stick with you for days. He can sing you to sleep, or wake you from the dead with his dynamic vocal stylings.”…

First/Last-Six Speed Kill

Posted on August 20, 2015

I guess we are supposed to tell you about this band now. Nick was bored one day around June 2013 because he probably ran out of beer or hamburger meat. His quest began to find a few low-lifes like himself that at least said they could play an instrument.

First/Last-Ancient Warfare

Posted on August 13, 2015

“Ancient Warfare were once the girls who smoked behind the high school gym. They were from distant shores; they spoke in code. They borrowed your brother’s Velvets records and talked about bands you wanted to know. They weren’t going to stay too long. They buried themselves in drones of words and found guitars, mapping an intimate apocalypse along the way.”…

First/Last-The Jaguar Club

Posted on August 13, 2015

A refined sound requires a refined lineup, and The Jaguar Club’s ranks have recently swelled and changed with original members William Popadic and Yoichiro Fujita remaining at the core. The new lineup is rounded out by Nadia Brittingham, from ‘Medals’, drummer Patrick Eager, and Gavin Dunaway, who toured as an auxiliary guitarist with the original recipe Jaguar Club. Close was inspired by a return to the idea of a band being “a band.” Someone writes a song and then the group

First/Last-Great Peacock

Posted on August 11, 2015

“You can call Great Peacock a folk band… but don’t expect them to make music for campfires or square dances. Raised in the Deep South and headquartered in Nashville, they’re a group of red-blooded country boys who aren’t afraid of the big city. Case in point: Making Ghosts — the duo’s harmony-heavy, guitar-driven debut album — whose 11 songs find the middle ground between rootsy, down-home Americana and super-sized arena pop/rock.”…

Nick Martin is a singer-songwriter from Pittsburgh who recently released his debut solo EP called “Jimmy Miller Sings the Blues“. With help from Thomas Cipollone and Nick DeAngelo of Grand Piano fame, the release is a personal labor of love for Nick and as he decides how to present his music live, I want to thank him for taking the time to participate in this edition of First/Last

First/Last-River Rat

Posted on July 31, 2015

“River Rat started as a blank piece of paper in December of 2013. By the end of the month, there were many pieces of paper scribbled with hardly legible ideas, melodies and arrangements. They were formed from life experiences, good & bad, light & dark, but either way from a place of honesty. A little time went by and the ideas began to become somewhat recognizable. Hours and hours were spent alone with these ideas until they had become strong enough to stand on their own,
but still sparse and existing in a black and white state.”…

S.L.I.P. is the moniker for Pittsburgh-based DIY musician David Rosenstraus’ hard core punk project. I want to thank David for taking the time to participate in this edition of First/Last

First/Last-The Oyster Murders

Posted on July 27, 2015

“The Oyster Murders’ name often raises curious looks from those hearing it for the first time, until they realize it derives from Lewis Carroll’s classic novella Through the Looking Glass. The band enjoys this esoteric approach to writing, often weaving in subtle pop culture references into their lyrics. The backdrop for this lyrical collage is a sound punctuated by large pop moments, reverbed guitars, innovative synths and, at times, densely layered instrumentation. After a busy 2012 with live performances in New York and the release of their debut album.”…

First/Last-The Getaway

Posted on July 21, 2015

“The Getaway formed as the brainchild of lead singer, Dion Wiegand, who began writing and performing songs early on. Dion and Corey met at Washington and Jefferson College and started playing together off and on and before they knew it, they had a good sound. They needed to find a drummer, and that’s when Corey remembered his good friend from high school, Nate Repp, who was constantly active in the local music circuit. After a month or two of jamming together, the core was rounded out.”…
