I like Dr. Dog and have seen them twice before but I don’t LOVE them. Judging by the sellout crowd, I assume many people do. Again, they are good but nothing that has me standing in line an hour before doors to chill by the stage rail as some fans did. I am still waiting for THAT record from them. The one you hear for the first time and know it’s a killer release. I believe the band still have it in them. In the meantime, they seem to have grown their audiences the old fashioned way, by touring like a beast year after year. Wanna see more photos from the night? Click here.
The band came to town last November and considering that the show was at CMU, it might as well as been in another state for all (or lack thereof) of the publicity around it. I wasn’t able to go then but was geeked for the show this night. My second time seeing them and they are steadily graduating to bigger venues as the hip indie bands of the day seem to be. Can they get ‘Death Cab For Cutie big’? Time will only tell. More photos here.
I decided at the last minute to go to this late night show. Bummer for me that they sold out earlier in the day. Hanging out in front of the club I counted ten other people who needed tickets as well. Eventually we all got in and enjoyed a fabulous set from these Philly guys. They were spot on even though Toby was still nursing a wicked punch in the throat that had them reschedule from last month. They backed out of an in-studio appearance at WYEP from earlier in the day…too much fun in Cleveland guys?
On a side note: It’s been several months (November 2007-Heartless Bastards) since I’ve been to Club Cafe and I have to say the lighting set-up is wickedly awful to shoot in. Harsh shadows across the face is no way to light a performance.
